CHERRYVILLE – John Adam Neal, Jr., 76, of E. Academy St., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. He was born April 10, 1943 in Lincoln County to the late John Adam and Christine Cora Hallman Neal.  

John was retired from Burlington and enjoyed playing softball in his younger years. He was known as “The Sheriff” of The Cherryville New Year’s Shooters, who he was a member of for 61 years. John was a member of Leonard’s Fork Baptist Church. His greatest passion was hunting and fishing.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wesley Neal.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Linda Kay Beam Neal; children, Lisa Kay Lane, John Adam Neal III, Becky Ann Wright (Lewis), and Charles Odell Neal (Lori Fowler); brother, Roy Neal (Ann); sister, Reba Elmore (Jerry); sister-in-law, Mary Frances Neal; 11 grandchildren, Crystal, Dusty, Nikki, April, John “Adam” IV, Michelle, Shaina, Sarah, Thomas, Isabella, and Sophie; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family received friends on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019 at Carpenter – Porter Funeral & Cremation Services from 2 to 4 p.m.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 16, 2019 at 2 p.m., at Leonard’s Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Jaie Warlick officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
