Against Cabarrus Charter

In this Dec. 2, home game, the JV men gave the Cabarrus Charter JV squad all they could handle but were unable to get the win as the Huskies won, 77-34. Scorers for the JV men in this one were Numarius Good (9 pts.); T.J. Thompson (7 pts.); Landon Hahn and Anthony Roberts with 6 points apiece; Ethan Honeyman (4 pts.); and Mason Grindstaff with two (2) points.

The CHS ladies didn’t play as signals got mixed up regarding scheduling for their Lady Huskies and the Lady Ironmen, so there was no women’s game for this date.

The Ironmen varsity squad came out and proceeded to dismantle the Cabarrus Huskies men 80-49, as both Lane Harrill and Lavonte Hughes score 23 points apiece. Harrill had three, three-pointers in this matchup.

Their double digits scoring was followed by senior Dylan Harden with 13 points.

Other scorers in this game were freshman Carson Kelly and Austin Thompson with 4 points apiece; Noah Abernethy and Jack Mulvey with 3 points apiece (off of three-point shots); Jeremy Varela, Carter Spangler, and Brent Walls with 2 points apiece; and Dedrick Taylor with one point. The first half of action saw the Ironmen rack up a total of 54 points going into the half.

Against North Lincoln

Coach Scott Harrill said the Ironmen suffered their first loss of the season at the Thursday, Dec. 5, North Lincoln away game by a score of 87-73.

Said Coach Harrill, “Lane (Harrill) led the (CHS) scorers with 37 points and 14 rebounds, and Dylan (Harden) had 10 points and seven (7) rebounds and three (3) steals. Lavonte (Hughes) had nine (9) points and eight (8) assists.”

Coach Harrill noted that Austin Thompson had six (6) points and eight (8) rebounds for the team.

The away game between the Lady Ironmen and the Lady Knights of North Lincoln was a 61-25 loss for the CHS ladies. The ladies were led in scoring in this one by Gracie Hester (8 pts.); Avery Grace Walker (7 pts.); Nykera Bush and Tearyha Bess (4 pts. apiece); and freshman Gabbie McCorkle with two points.

Against West Lincoln

In the Friday, Dec. 6, home game against the visiting West Lincoln Rebels’ teams, the JV men started things out by defeating the JV Rebels by a score of 67-38.

Coach Antonio Griggs said he was proud of his JV squad and how they handled the ball on the court.

Coach Carrie Dalton’s Lady Ironmen, in spite of a great effort on their part, had a tough time handling the Lady Rebels, who came out running and gunning.

The Lady Rebels won the game by a score of 51-23, though at half time the hard-playing Lady Ironmen were only 11 points down (22-11). Scorers for Coach Dalton’s ladies in this one were Faith Anthony with nine (9) points, followed by Avery Grace Walker’s six (6) points and Terayha Bess’ five (5) points.

Others scoring for the CHS ladies in this one were Gracie Hester (2) and Nykera Bush (1).

In the following men’s varsity game, the CHS Ironmen polished off a tough Rebels team 66-47. The score at the half was 34-18.

It was clear the Rebels came to play as they kept the Ironmen to 9 points in the first quarter. However, things picked up in the second quarter as the men in blue and black and white zoned in and jammed 25 points on the board for a half-time score of 34-18, CHS.

Senior gunslinger and shooter Lane Harrill bagged 29 points on the night, followed by teammates Jeremy Varela and Dylan Harden with nine (9) points apiece. Junior shooter and ace player Lavonte Hughes knocked down 7 points against the Rebels in this one.

Other scorers were freshman Carson Kelly’s five (5) points (one of which was a three-pointer!) and senior Brent Walls (3 pts.). These were followed by Gavin Cease’s three (3) points, and Austin Thompson and Jack Mulvey’s two (2) points apiece.

The Ironmen are 5-1 on the season, and are facing games this week as follows: Wednesday, Dec. 11, at Thomas Jefferson (Away); JV 4:30, VAR 6 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 13, an away rematch with West Lincoln (away) at the Rebels gym starting with the JV game at 4:30 pm., followed by the  varsity games at 6 p.m. On Tuesday, Dec. 17, the game will be at Nixon Gym against Pinnacle Classical Academy with the varsity game at 6 p.m.
