The Ironmen gridiron squad were able to get a “W” last Friday night, Nov. 1, at Rudisill Stadium, making sure their eight seniors had a great night for Senior Night.

Those senior players, Dylan Harden, Jayden Blanton, Andrew Beam, Sammy Clark, Jackson Bowers, Dawson Moore, Jerran Croft and the big man, Kyle Wallace, all contributed in this win against the visiting Pride of Pine Lake Prep, located in Mooresville.

The Ironmen won the toss and elected to receive but had to punt it away in first quarter action. With 4:27 on the clock, the Pride got on the scoreboard and with the two-point conversion, it was 8-0; the Pride in the lead.

With the clock reading 11:54, Austin Thompson caught a Harden pass to put the Ironmen on the board, and with the Dawson Moore PAT, it was 8-7, in favor of the Pride.

The Pride’s defense caught QB Harden in his own end zone on the quarterback keeper for a safety and it was 10-7.

The Ironmen took over on downs and Harden completed a pass to Jayden “The Iron Horse” Blanton who ran an 82-yard TD with 2:00 on the clock. The extra point kick was blocked, but the Ironmen took the lead, 13-10.

Harden also completed a 20-yard pass to Cooper Sloan.

At the half time, the football seniors and their families, the cheerleading seniors and their families, and the Ironmen Marching Band seniors and their families, along with the CHS senior trainer, took the field to be recognized.

After gaining some yardage in the third quarter, senior Ironmen running back Blanton had a one-yard TD run with 4:49 on the board. Moore’s PAT was good, and the Ironmen were up 20-10.

The PLP Pride came back though, and with 1:49 on the clock, made a TD, but the extra point attempt was no good. The score was then 20-16, CHS.

In the fourth quarter, QB Dylan Harden completed a pass to Jerran Croft, who ran 20 yards for the TD. With 9:27 on the clock, Moore’s PAT was good and the Ironmen were up 27-16.

Once again, the Ironmen took over on downs and with 5:11 on the clock, Blanton got a 26-yard TD run. With Moore’s solid kicking, the PAT was good and the score was suddenly 34-16.

The Pride, however, were not down and out yet as they scored another TD with 4:55 on the clock in the 4th. Their 2-point conversion was good and the score was 34-24.

The Ironmen defense held the Pride to no real gains as the fourth quarter wound down and the CHS men took over on downs.

After taking a knee twice, the Ironmen won their Senior’s Night home game, 34-24.

The tale of the tape for the CHS men was they had a total of 312 yards on the night; 116 in the air, and 206 on the ground.

Harden completed four of 13 passes, and carried the ball himself 13 times for a total of 42 yards.

Blanton had two TDs (82, and 26 yards respectively), and 32 carries for a total of 155 rushing yards.

Cooper Sloan carried the ball three times for nine yards and Jerran Croft had a 20-yard TD run off a pass.

In the air, Harden hit Austin Thompson, and Jerran Croft with passes (both TDs) and others he threw to were Sammy Clark and Anthony Roberts.

The Ironmen (3-7 overall; 3-4 in SPC 1A play) will face the BCHS Yellow Jackets at BCHS on Friday, Nov. 8, with the game starting at 7:30 p.m.
